Čukur Fountain

Belgrade, Dorćol, Stari Grad · Serbia

A memorial fountain in Dorćol commemorating the incident of 15 June 1862, when the boy Sava Petković was killed after a quarrel at the fountain. The clash between the Serbian and Ottoman police escalated into fighting in the town and the bombardment of Belgrade from the fortress, and the diplomatic outcome led in 1867 to the withdrawal of the Ottoman garrisons from Serbian towns.
