Gradac Monastery

Raška, Raška · Serbia

Of exceptional importance

The endowment of Queen Helen of Anjou, wife of King Uroš I, built in 1277–1282 during the reign of her son King Dragutin, on a plateau above the Gradačka river at the edge of Golija. The Church of the Annunciation combines the Raška building tradition with Gothic forms, and the queen herself is buried there.
